ILK
An artist and architects collaborative project to produce a ceramic studio and home for artist Isobel Thom. Conceived by Isobel and through her explorational ceramic vignettes architects James Fenton and Steven Lloyd provided the architectural detail to realise the built work.
Deeply anchored into a steep hillside, the steel framed structure was clad in thousands of hand made ceramic shingles. Towering in a kauri forest the metallic glaze and tempered clays sing with the adjacent trees. The interior is similarly crafted tile, conduit, screen, and appliance. - Off grid and poetically out of this world.
